Vuesch – Verein zur Überwindung der Schwerkraft e.V. (our Berlin training space for circus) is realizing our dream of a big festival, convention, network meeting, jamming and training… of aerial artists in Berlin – together with our partners Staatliche Schule für Artistik (where all the workshops and trainings will take place), Maulhelden Büro with Arnulf Rating (who is our patron and co-producer of our aerial gala shows), Institut Français (who supports us in bringing French aerial circus to Berlin), and ArtistRaum (where our master classes will be).
The workshops, training, master classes and open stage festival are aimed at the aerial community – professionals, semi-professionals and advanced aerial lovers! We welcome everybody, but we do not offer any beginner’s classes or beginner’s training at all (sorry beginners… keep working and you can join us next year!!!).
Everybody who joins the festival knows their aerial basics and has at least one year of continuous experience. Everybody who joins is healthy and fit for aerial work. And last but not least, this is a professional/advanced festival, so everybody is at least 18 years old. The shows and talks are open for anyone, of course!
We offer festival passes for the entire festival, and we also have day-passes (if there are places left). The festival passes include the welcome dinner, open training/aerial jamming, talks, discussions and open stage.
Workshops have to be booked additionally, and the master classes as well. For the master classes you need to apply with a letter of motivation – there will be a selection by the artists.
During training/workshop days there will be lunches and suppers at the school café – this can be
booked additionally to the festival pass.
If you need to discuss anything, are looking for a place to stay, have questions about workshops etc. – we made a Facebook Group for the participants, where you can post things like that!
Rigging and Safety:
We will offer a few props to work on, but mainly this festival has a sharing spirit – so we hope, everybody will bring their preferred equipment, and share it with everybody. If you want to rig equipment that you do not want others to use – don’t bring it! And of course respect the equipment of others (e.g. if a rope does not allow doubles, don’t do doubles with it…).
The rigging points are many – 11m height (a few are in 7m, those are reserved for trapezes), so bring plenty of rigging material. Any rigging material we do not authorize cannot be used, without discussion. We will strongly enforce safety. In the same spirit we will not allow any aerial work without crash mats – again, no discussions!
We will do the main rigging on Tuesday, 25th of October, in the afternoon – before our welcome dinner. Try to be there, if possible. There will be more rigging opportunities each morning before the workshops start. We will assign spots for rigging – according to workshop plans etc.
If you’re not sure about your own equipment, don’t hesitate to ask.
